New Wood Furnace, Dev Atma Udyan and Renovated Bathing Area Launched at Ghat
Key Points:
- New wood-based furnace uses only 100 kg of wood, cuts pollution significantly
- Dev Atma Udyan created for last rites of newborns and children under five
- Pavitra Niketan toilet and bathing area renovated with donor contributions
JAMSHEDPUR – The Parvati Ghat Samiti has launched several new facilities at the cremation ground from June 6, aimed at making funeral services more organised, cleaner, and environment-friendly for residents of Jamshedpur.
Among the new additions is an eco-friendly wood-based furnace. In contrast to conventional wood furnaces, this new unit consumes only around 100 kilograms of wood per cremation.
Moreover, it completes the cremation process in less time. A chimney-based smoke-outlet system makes it considerably cleaner and less polluting than traditional alternatives.
The furnace was made possible by a donation of Rs 11 lakh from Shri Krishna Murari Gupta. The samiti has expressed its gratitude to him for the contribution.
Meanwhile, a dedicated space called “Dev Atma Udyan” has been developed within the Parvati Ghat premises. This garden has been created for the last rites of newborns and children below the age of five, in accordance with Hindu tradition.
The udyan comprises six separately demarcated zones. Each zone has a burial capacity of 80 children.
Several donors contributed Rs 5 lakh each towards this project. They include Shri Ratanlal, Naveen and Neeraj Aggarwal, Shri Anil and Tushit Aggarwal, Shri Mahesh Aggarwal, Shri Khushman Bhai Udani, Smt Uma Nathulal, Asha and Naveen Poddar, and Smt Manju Devi along with Rahul and Vishal Saw.
In addition, the “Pavitra Niketan” — the toilet and bathing area at Parvati Ghat — has undergone renovation. Shri Nirmal Bhai Pandya donated Rs 5 lakh for this work.
The Parvati Ghat Samiti stated that with community support and donor contributions, it was working to make funeral facilities more systematic, hygienic, and humane. The samiti expressed gratitude to all donors for their contributions.
The new eco-friendly furnace at the ghat aligns with broader environmental concerns being raised across Jamshedpur in recent weeks. However, the samiti’s primary emphasis has been on improving dignity and hygiene in last rites services for all sections of society.
