Gram Sabha opposes disposal of urban waste in rural areas

Jamshedpur: Villagers of Khairboni Samotola today held a demonstration in front of JNAC Office in Sakchi to protest against the proposed waste disposal plant being constructed in Khairboni. The demonstration was led by the Gram Sabha of the area. The waste disposal plant is being constructed by JNAC with the help of Jusco.

The local villagers are opposing the construction of waste disposal unit in their area.

A large number of villagers took part in the demonstration and shouted slogans against the JNAC project.

The Gram Sabha members said that urban waste should be disposed in urban areas, while rural waste should be disposed in rural areas.

They said that disposal of urban waste in rural areas would cause pollution in the villages and this would not be acceptable to the villagers.

They said that for now they are opposing the project symbolically, but if the project is not scrapped, they would resort to aggressive protest to stop work on the project.
