Jamshedpur trade unions ready for Nov 26 nationwide general strike
Jamshedpur: Ten major central trade unions of the country have called for a nationwide general strike against the union government’s alleged anti-labour and anti-farmer policies. They have called this strike to oppose the privatisation of PSUs as well as new labour and farm laws passed by the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
The trade unions of Jamshedpur too are preparing to make the strike successful. The bank and insurance employee unions too are participating in the countrywide strike.
The local trade unions have appealed to the general public to make the strike a big success.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the general secretary of Insurance Employees’ Union of Jamshedpur Girish Ojha today said that the strike is not only over workers’ interests but also intends to oppose and highlight the policies detrimental to general masses as well as the national interest.
He said that the union government is pursuing an anti-farmer and anti-labour policies and the strike is meant to oppose such policies.
The central trade unions have also announced a decision to support the two-day farmers’ agitation called on November 26 and 27.
The Left parties and Congress too have lent support to the all-India strike call.
Apart from the 10 major central trade unions of the country, the employees’ unions in insurance, banking, railways and central and state government units have also announced their decision to joint he general strike. Around 1.6 workers are estimated to participate in the strike.
