Jamshedpur resident loses Rs 82,500 to a deceptive job offer scam
A Jamshedpur resident was defrauded of Rs 82,500 by cybercriminals posing as recruiters from Naukri.com, triggering a police investigation into the intricate scam.
JAMSHEDPUR – Adija Chakraborty, residing near Chinmaya School in Telco-8/13, has become a recent victim of cyber fraud, losing Rs 82,500 to a scheme falsely associated with Naukri.com.
After receiving a call and a threatening email alleging legal action and a hefty fine, Chakraborty was coerced into paying various sums through PhonePe, believing she was averting legal trouble and potential employment bans.
Despite promises of a refund after the payments, further demands for money were made, leading to the realization that she had been scammed.
The incident was promptly reported to the Bistupur Cyber Police Station, where officials have begun an investigation to track down the fraudsters.
It may be added here that in the recent past, cybercrime cases have surged, with the Jamshedpur Police Department reporting a significant increase in complaints, underscoring the need for heightened public awareness and caution in dealing with such fraudulent activities.
