All preparations complete for polling in 3rd phase, control room set up for monitoring

Jamshedpur: The polling officers’ teams were despatched today from Jamshedpur Co-Operative College. Most of the teams have reached their clusters for 3rd phase of ongoing panchayat elections. These polling parties would leave for their respective booths Tuesday early morning as polling is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. itself.

The District Election Officer (Panchayat) Mrs. Vijaya Jadhav and Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. M. Tamil Vanan addressed the media in the Collectorate Auditorium today.

The District Election Officer (Panchayat) informed that in the third phase, voters of total 61 panchayats of Bodam (12 Panchayat), Patmada (15 Panchayat) and Potka (34 Panchayat) will exercise their franchise.

Appealing to all the voters, she said that they should exercise your franchise thoughtfully and they should also take special care to ensure that their vote is not declared invalid.

Expressing concern over a large number of votes getting declared invalid in the two-phase elections held so far, she said that during the counting of votes, it is often seen that voters are putting stamps at many places, due to which their vote becomes invalid.

She said that only valid votes will lead to healthy and competitive elections, which is very important for democracy.

She said that a control room has been set up in the collectorate at the district level for continuous monitoring and successful conduct of elections.

She also added that in the third phase, elections are to be held in three blocks Bodam, Patmada and Potka under East Singhbhum district.

She said that polling parties were dispatched earlier today from the dispatch center at Jamshedpur Cooperative College.

The third phase of polling will be held on May 24 between7 am and 3 pm and counting will be held from May 31 to June 02 between 8 am and 8 pm.

She said that for the third phase of elections, a total of 269482 voters (133179 male voters, 136302 female voters) will exercise their franchise at 139 polling stations in Bodam block, 167 in Patmada and 401 in Potka block.

The counting of votes in the third phase will be done in the cooperative college.

She also said that the collation of ballot papers for the third phase of elections has been completed.

1600 ballot boxes have been distributed for a total of 707 polling stations and the randomization work has also been completed by the personnel too.

No candidate is allowed to campaign after 3 pm on 22nd May.

While preparing the medical plan, deputing medical officers and paramedical staff at all the cluster points, ambulances and Mamta vehicles have been tagged.

Anti venom injection has been arranged for all CHCs and polling stations in difficult areas.

Strict vigil is being maintained by all the magistrates and executive magistrates for compliance of the code of conduct.

The Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. M. Tamil Vanan said that a three-tier security arrangement has been made for the conduct of peaceful elections.

He said that the booths have not been relocated.

Four polling buildings have been identified as shadow areas where wireless sets will be used for communication.

325 police officers, 833 police jawans, motor vehicle squad, 2 contingents of CRPF and 2 contingents of Jharkhand Jaguar have been deployed.

In case of emergency, a site has been marked for helipad in each block and cluster for emergency evacuation plan.

Police Department and Excise Department are continuously conducting raids against illegal liquor sellers, while checks have been activated on the inter-state border.
