JAMSHEDPUR – A worker attached to a fruit vendor’s stall at Sakchi Market was assaulted on Friday, sparking brief panic in the area.
The worker, identified as Madhav Chatar, was allegedly beaten by Mohammad Faheem at the fruit stall of trader Satyanarayan Kesari, a resident of Shankosai in Mango. Chatar belongs to the tribal community and works as a laborer to support his family.
A video purportedly capturing the entire assault has since surfaced. Bystanders present at the scene reportedly remained mute spectators throughout the incident.
However, the matter did not end there. Kesari informed former BJP leader Vikas Singh about the assault soon after it occurred.
Singh subsequently alerted the district administration and the Jamshedpur police, who reached the spot without delay. Police then detained Faheem and placed him under arrest.
Meanwhile, officers said the case is being investigated further. The circumstances that led to the altercation are still being examined by the police.
“Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” a police official said.
Sakchi Market has previously witnessed other law-and-order concerns. In a related development, a theft case in the Mango-Olidih area was resolved with four arrests earlier this week.
In addition, the Bagbera assault case saw three accused sent to judicial custody after their arrest. Besides, the SSP has been briefing mobile police units with instructions for stricter action against criminals in the district.
On the other hand, tribal welfare and worker safety issues in local markets continue to draw administrative attention across East Singhbhum.
