JAMSHEDPUR – Unknown antisocial elements set fire to five to six shops located near the Blood Bank in the Bistupur police station area of Jamshedpur late on Wednesday night.
The fire reduced goods stored in the shops in Bistupur to ashes. Each affected shopkeeper is estimated to have suffered a loss of approximately Rs 2 to 3 lakh.
Local residents rushed to the spot upon receiving information about the blaze. They attempted to douse the flames before the fire brigade arrived.
The fire brigade team subsequently reached the site and brought the situation under control. However, by then, significant damage had already been done to the gutted shops.
The identity of those responsible remains unknown. Meanwhile, Jamshedpur Police has launched a serious investigation into the incident.
Authorities are currently scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area. The footage is expected to provide crucial leads in identifying the arson suspects.
Affected shopkeepers expressed outrage after the incident. They demanded that the administration identify and take strict action against the culprits at the earliest.
“Everything I had stocked was destroyed overnight,” said one of the affected vendors. “We want the police to find those responsible immediately.”
This incident follows a pattern of fire-related losses reported across various parts of Jamshedpur in recent months.
