RANCHI – Two CRPF Cobra battalion personnel were airlifted to Ranchi after suffering injuries in an IED explosion during an anti-Naxal search operation in West Singhbhum’s Saranda forest.
The blast occurred inside the Saranda forest region of Chaibasa district. The operation was targeting suspected Naxal elements.
Meanwhile, the injured jawans belonged to the elite Cobra unit of CRPF. They were conducting a combing operation when the device exploded.
However, immediate evacuation measures were initiated by security forces. A helicopter was deployed to shift them to Ranchi.
Moreover, the injured personnel were taken for advanced medical care. Officials said their condition was being monitored.
Security forces have intensified operations in the dense Saranda forest. The region has witnessed repeated encounters in recent months.
Earlier, a major anti-Naxal drive left 17 Maoists dead in West Singhbhum. In another incident, one Naxal was killed in a forest gun battle.
Meanwhile, forces have also seized arms during coordinated raids. Four rifles and ammunition were recovered in a recent operation in the district.
In contrast, Naxal groups have used improvised explosive devices frequently. A similar IED blast incident had injured personnel earlier.
Security agencies said search operations remain underway. Additional reinforcements have been deployed in vulnerable zones.
