JAMSHEDPUR – A youth died after jumping from Sampra Bridge into the Swarnarekha River near the Adityapur-Kapali border in Seraikela district on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at Sampra Bridge on Monday afternoon. The bridge lies between Adityapur and Kapali police station limits.
A young man riding a scooty stopped on the bridge. He then leaped directly into the Swarnarekha River.
Police from Adityapur and Kapali reached the site quickly. Meanwhile, local divers were called for rescue efforts.
Divers searched the river immediately after the alert. However, the youth was found unresponsive.
He was identified as Varun, a resident of Tamolia. Family members rushed to the bridge after receiving information.
Witnesses said he arrived on a black scooty. The vehicle bore registration number JH05CU-8657.
He parked the scooter on the bridge. Then he jumped into the river without hesitation.
A large crowd gathered on the bridge soon after. Meanwhile, relatives broke down at the scene.
Police recovered the body with local divers’ help. The remains were taken for further procedures.
Adityapur station in-charge Raman Vishwakarma confirmed the incident. He said police acted after receiving information.
“We were informed that a boy had jumped,” he said. “The body was recovered with divers’ assistance.”
The reason behind the act remains unclear. However, police said all angles are under investigation.
Such drowning incidents have occurred earlier in the region. In one case, the Kharkai River recovery followed similar circumstances.
Another report noted the Kharkai teen recovery during a search operation.
Authorities urged caution near river bridges. Meanwhile, investigations continue into Monday’s incident.
