Body of Drowned Teen Recovered from Kharkai River, Search for Another Continues
NDRF team continues search for missing boy; family and community in grief.
The body of Aditya Mahato, a 15-year-old boy who drowned while bathing in the Asangi check dam on Sunday, was found approximately 1.5 kilometers away from the incident site in the Kharkai River, causing immense grief among his family.
ADITYAPUR – The body of Aditya Mahato, a 15-year-old boy from Ichhapur, who drowned while bathing in the Asangi check dam on Sunday, was found about 1.5 kilometers away from the incident site in the Kharkai River.
The discovery of Aditya’s body has left his family devastated.
Meanwhile, the thirty-member NDRF team from Ranchi, which arrived on Monday morning, continued to search the check dam and surrounding areas throughout the day but was unable to locate the other missing boy, Sumit Modi, also 15.
Due to darkness and rain, the search operation was paused.
Former Vice President of Adityapur Municipal Council Purendra Narayan Singh, Gamharia CO Kamal Kishore, RIT Police Station In-Charge Vinay Kumar, and former Ward 24 Councillor Dhiren Mahato, along with the families of both boys, were present at the Kharkai River bank throughout the day.
Around noon on Sunday, Aditya Mahato and Sumit Modi from Ichhapur Line Tola and Mandir Tola, respectively, went to bathe in the Kharkai River near the Asangi check dam, where they were swept away by the strong current.
Prompted by the district administration, the NDRF team arrived on Monday morning and searched the river and its surroundings throughout the day but could not find Sumit Modi.
Late in the evening, Aditya Mahato’s body was found floating in the water about 1.5 kilometers from the incident site.
The recovery of Aditya’s body brought a wave of sadness over the community.
Purendra Narayan Singh described the incident as tragic and emphasized the need to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
