NCPCR Orders Probe Into School Admission Irregularities in Jamshedpur

Commission Flags Lottery Manipulation and Safety Lapses in Private Schools

JAMSHEDPUR – The child rights panel has ordered a state probe into alleged admission fraud and safety violations in private schools.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken cognizance of a formal complaint. The allegations concern reputed private schools operating in Jamshedpur.

However, the complaint was submitted by BJP leader Ankit Anand. It alleged manipulation in lottery-based admission processes. It also flagged the appointment of unqualified teachers.

Meanwhile, NCPCR Registrar Rajesh Kumar Singh issued strict instructions. He sought a detailed investigation report from the Jharkhand education secretary.

Several schools were named during the preliminary review. Loyola School in Birsanagar featured in the complaint. Little Flower School in Telco was also listed.

Moreover, Clooney Preparatory School, St. Mary’s School, and St. Joseph’s School were included. Beldih Church School also came under scrutiny.

In addition, Sacred Heart Convent and Carmel School in Sonari were named. The complaint alleged misuse of minority status provisions.

On the other hand, the commission noted claims of external influence. It alleged political and union pressure on software-based lottery systems.

Meanwhile, similar concerns were earlier highlighted when guidelines for transparent lottery admissions were issued. The rules were meant to prevent manipulation.

Beyond admissions, NCPCR flagged serious safety issues. Several teachers reportedly lacked mandatory qualifications and training.

Furthermore, police verification of staff was allegedly ignored. This lapse was termed a direct risk to child safety.

In contrast, the commission stressed its legal authority. It clarified that NCPCR holds civil court powers under law.

Accordingly, a district-level inquiry has been ordered. The education department must submit findings within stipulated timelines.

Moreover, the commission warned of strict consequences. These may include affiliation cancellation or heavy penalties.

Earlier reports showed disputes over admissions in the city. These included cases where schools refused BPL admissions. Admission transparency has remained under public focus.

In recent months, several lotteries were officially conducted. For instance, St. Mary’s School held a nursery lottery. Similarly, Church School Beldih conducted admissions under supervision.
