Key Points:

  • 16-year-old scooter rider killed after unmanned bus rolled backward at crossing
  • Bus driver and conductor left vehicle without engaging handbrake or gear
  • Locals block railway tracks demanding underpass construction and compensation

JAMSHEDPUR – A teenage girl died instantly after a bus rolled backward. The incident occurred at Barigora railway crossing on Monday. Moreover, a 10-year-old child sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Anjali Kumar, age 16, was riding a scooter near Parsudih area. The young relative accompanying her suffered critical wounds. However, doctors admitted the injured child to Tata Motors Hospital immediately.

The Bhole Shankar bus had stopped at the closed crossing. It operates on the Rahar Gora to Sakchi route regularly. Meanwhile, the driver and conductor left for tea nearby.

Neither handbrake nor back gear was engaged before departure. The unattended vehicle began rolling backward suddenly without warning. Furthermore, the bus crushed the scooter waiting behind it completely.

Eyewitnesses confirmed the bus crew’s negligence caused the tragedy. Local residents gathered at the accident site immediately afterward. In addition, angry crowds blocked the railway crossing demanding justice.

Anjali’s father revealed she was the eldest of three sisters. She served as the family’s backbone and primary support. On the other hand, he demanded adequate compensation from authorities.

JMM Odisha Pradesh General Secretary Dubaraj Nag criticized transport conditions. Most buses on the Rahar Gora-Sakchi route operate in unfit condition. Besides, district administration permits these dangerous vehicles on roads.

He demanded immediate inspection of all buses operating locally. Compensation for the bereaved family remains essential according to him. Moreover, strict action against negligent officials should follow promptly.

Residents highlighted the absence of an underpass at the location. People remain stuck for hours daily due to closed gates. Furthermore, accidents occur frequently at this dangerous crossing point.

Railway authorities received multiple demands for underpass construction previously. However, no action has been taken despite repeated requests. In contrast, similar protests emerged elsewhere following preventable deaths recently.

Protesters blocked railway tracks demanding immediate infrastructure development there. Police and administrative officials reached the spot for crowd control. Meanwhile, tragic accidents continue highlighting systemic failures in the region.

Road safety concerns have increased across East Singhbhum district. Transport negligence causes preventable deaths regularly throughout the area. Besides, vehicle-related fatalities remain alarmingly high despite awareness campaigns launched.

Authorities are working to control the volatile situation currently. Questions remain whether responsible parties will face accountability measures. Furthermore, implementation of safety protocols continues requiring urgent attention.
