Youth Block Bypass Road Over Rising Accidents in Chaibasa

Protesters Demand Traffic Control After Transport Minister Removes Entry Ban

Key Points:

  • Tribal youth jam Tata-Chaibasa bypass road for hours on Monday
  • Heavy vehicle day entry ban removed after Deepak Birua became minister
  • Iron ore trucks cause frequent accidents on the route

CHAIBASA – Tribal youth blocked the Tata-Chaibasa bypass road in West Singhbhum for hours on Monday. They were protesting against increasing road accidents in the city.

The protesters accused local MLA Deepak Birua of mismanaging traffic. Birua currently serves as the state’s Transport Minister. Youth claimed traffic management has collapsed since his appointment.

The bypass road witnesses daily accidents now. Heavy vehicles were earlier banned during daytime hours. However, the no-entry rule was lifted recently.

“The restriction was removed after Birua became minister,” a protester said. “People are losing lives every second day now.”

The demonstration intensified as crowds swelled on Monday. Local police struggled to control the angry youth. Officers spent considerable time convincing protesters to clear the road.

The route serves as a major iron ore transportation corridor. Trucks carry ore through this stretch regularly. Moreover, speeding drivers cause accidents almost daily.

Monday’s blockade created severe traffic disruptions. Commuters faced long delays on the bypass. Local residents bore the brunt of the protest.

West Singhbhum has witnessed multiple fatal accidents recently. The tribal youth demanded immediate restoration of heavy vehicle restrictions. They also called for stricter enforcement of speed limits.
