JAMSHEDPUR – In a shocking incident, a minor boy from Golmuri, Jamshedpur, was cheated of ₹1.74 lakh by cyber fraudsters posing as police officers. The case was reported on Tuesday by the victim’s mother, Ranjoo Kumari, at the Golmuri police station.
According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of December 8, when the minor received a phone call. The caller accused him of inappropriate behavior with a girl. Soon after, a WhatsApp video call followed, displaying the image of a man in police uniform.
Fraudsters Threaten Legal Action
The fraudster, claiming to be a police officer, told the boy that a written complaint had been filed against him. He threatened further legal trouble unless a settlement amount was paid immediately. Falling for the scam, the frightened boy transferred ₹1.74 lakh using his parents’ UPI account details.
The matter came to light when the boy’s parents discovered the fraudulent transaction. They immediately approached Golmuri police and filed a written complaint.
Police Investigation Underway
Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation based on the phone number and other details provided. Officials are attempting to trace the caller and uncover the network behind the fraud.
The incident has raised concerns about the growing cases of cybercrime, especially targeting minors. Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify any suspicious calls demanding money.
