JAMSHEDPUR – Armed criminals carried out a daylight robbery at Vardhman Jewellers in Sonari market on Wednesday, leaving the shopkeeper injured.
According to reports, six assailants stormed the shop and looted valuables before fleeing. During the escape, the robbers hit the shopkeeper with the butt of a firearm, causing injuries. He was rushed to hospital and is receiving treatment.
Soon after, senior police officials including City SP, DSP, and Sonari police station in-charge reached the spot with forces and began investigations. Locals expressed outrage that such a major crime took place barely a kilometer from Sonari police station.
Witnesses recalled that a similar robbery had occurred in the same market earlier, and those culprits remain untraced. Residents said the repeated incidents show emboldened criminals operating in the city.
Meanwhile, police confirmed that the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras and efforts are underway to identify and nab the gang.
