In contrast to its humble beginnings, it now operates as an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education.

Institutional Background and Growth

The campus spans 341.3 acres of rolling terrain along the Kharkai River. On the other hand, the institute houses 12 departments covering engineering, science, and humanities disciplines. Besides academic excellence, the institution maintains approximately 200 faculty members and 4,000 students.

Furthermore, NIT Jamshedpur achieved Institute of National Importance status through the NIT Act of 2007. However, its journey began as one of eight Regional Engineering Colleges established during India’s Second Five-Year Plan. Moreover, the institute was initially a joint venture between the Government of India and Government of Bihar.

The institution has consistently demonstrated excellence in placements and research activities. Additionally, it operates multiple recruitment cycles throughout the year for various positions. In addition, the institute recently conducted separate recruitment drives for teaching faculty and project-based positions.
