Families in Jharkhand Nagar Seek Verification and Rehabilitation Amid Eviction Notice

Residents of Jharkhandnagar in South Karandih Panchayat demand land verification and rehabilitation after railway-issued eviction notice.

Key Points:

  • Eviction notice issued to 450 families in Jharkhand Nagar Basti.
  • Residents seek verification of railway and Bihar government land ownership.
  • Request for relocation and rehabilitation on vacant Bihar government land.

JAMSHEDPUR – Residents of Jharkhandnagar Basti in South Karandih Panchayat have submitted a memorandum requesting land verification and rehabilitation following an eviction notice issued by the Senior Section Engineer (Works) of South Eastern Railway. The notice requires residents to vacate land under account number 372 and plot number 1133 by January 30, 2025.

Scope of the Affected Area

The eviction notice affects approximately 450 families, totaling a population of about 4,000. The area spans parts of three wards from three different panchayats and includes Ward 4 of South Karandih Panchayat.

Demands for Land Verification

The memorandum demands a detailed verification of the land to distinguish between railway-owned property and Bihar government’s non-agricultural land. The residents emphasized the need for accurate identification of the disputed land to ensure justice for the affected families.

Call for Rehabilitation

Residents have urged authorities to arrange for their relocation to vacant, non-agricultural Bihar government land. This step, they argue, would safeguard their livelihoods and prevent further displacement.

Appeal for Fair Action

The memorandum highlights the urgency of the situation and calls for the involvement of local authorities to ensure a transparent resolution. The affected families have expressed hope for timely action to prevent forced eviction without viable alternatives.
