RANCHI – Security forces achieved a significant breakthrough against insurgency in Latehar district. A targeted operation in the district’s Sadar area led to the arrest of a rebel and the seizure of a rifle after an intense gun battle.
The operation, based on intelligence that a JJM leader was planning an attack, involved police and paramilitary teams. Upon spotting the forces, rebels opened fire, triggering a retaliatory exchange. Overwhelmed by the forces, the extremists retreated, leaving behind one captured member and weaponry.
Operations Intensify in Other Areas
In Bokaro’s Bermo area, another operation targeted a Maoist faction. Two insurgents, including a woman, were neutralized during an early-morning clash. The deceased woman was identified as the wife of a high-profile Maoist commander recently arrested.
Bokaro police received intelligence about armed insurgents assembling in forested zones. A well-coordinated ambush resulted in a firefight where security forces managed to corner the faction.
Broader Anti-Insurgency Strategy
These actions are part of an intensified crackdown on extremist activities in Jharkhand. Authorities aim to dismantle networks that use forested terrains for planning assaults. SP Kumar Gaurav emphasized the importance of community cooperation in these operations.
The recovered weapons and intelligence from these encounters will aid in upcoming operations. Forces remain vigilant, ensuring continued security in affected regions.
