JAMSHEDPUR – The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced the prestigious National Sports Awards 2024, recognizing exceptional achievements across multiple sports disciplines.

The coveted Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award will be presented to four outstanding athletes. “These awards recognize exceptional talent and dedication in Indian sports,” remarked a senior ministry official.

Historic Achievements

Chess prodigy D Gukesh made history by becoming the youngest world champion at age 18. Meanwhile, hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh led India to consecutive Olympic medals.

Para-athlete Praveen Kumar’s gold in high jump at Paris Paralympics marked India’s first-ever victory in the event. Additionally, Manu Bhaker secured historic double Olympic medals in shooting.

Para-Athletes Make Mark

A record number of para-athletes received recognition this year. “This unprecedented selection reflects the growing strength of para-sports in India,” noted a sports authority representative.

The Dronacharya Award honors five distinguished coaches. Moreover, Chandigarh University emerged as the overall winner of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy.
