RANCHI – Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar approved the second supplementary budget, paving the way for enhanced payments under the Maiya Samman Yojana to reach beneficiaries before Christmas.

The Law Department has issued the notification. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced on social media that payments would begin within a week. The scheme targets women aged 18-50 years.

Implementation Process

The Social Security Directorate has ordered verification. “We’ll remove duplicate and ineligible entries,” noted a department official. Additionally, those receiving other social security pensions will be delisted.

Political Context

The enhanced payment fulfills an election promise. Moreover, CM Soren criticized BJP-ruled Haryana’s delay in similar payments. The coalition government had pledged this increase in their manifesto.

Verification Drive

Director Sameera S has instructed all Deputy Commissioners. Furthermore, beneficiaries claiming benefits from multiple districts face removal. The department aims to ensure benefits reach only eligible recipients.
