SARAIKELA – A tragic road accident on the Seraikela-Kandra road claimed the life of Chandan Napit, a resident of Bankasai under Sini OP. The incident occurred near the Dugni Koladhipi Jio petrol pump when a drunk driver of a 407 vehicle collided with Chandan’s bike, killing him instantly.
Chandan, an employee of Ramakrishna Forgings in Kolabira, was on his way to work when the collision happened. Following the accident, enraged locals assaulted the driver and blocked the road, causing a massive traffic jam. Several vehicles, including school buses, were caught in the chaos.
Police, led by Seraikela Station Officer Satish Warnwal, intervened to rescue the driver from the mob and bring him to custody. Authorities are working to restore normalcy while locals demand compensation for the victim’s family and stringent action against the driver.
The accident underscores the district’s ongoing struggle with road safety. Drunk driving, reckless parking, and the lack of effective traffic management have led to an alarming rise in accidents. Despite repeated incidents, the administration has failed to enforce measures like stricter checks on drink-and-drive violations.
Efforts are underway to address the protestors’ concerns and clear the road. The tragic loss of life has sparked renewed calls for better enforcement of traffic laws and accountability in preventing such incidents.
