Tata Motors Plant Head Receives Notice Over Non-Payment of Gratuity

Ravindra Kulkarni, the Plant Head of Tata Motors, has been issued a notice by the Additional Labour Commissioner, seeking a written response by June 19.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Plant Head of Tata Motors, Ravindra Kulkarni, has been served with a notice from the Additional Labour Commissioner, demanding an explanation by June 19 as to why legal proceedings should not be initiated against him.

The notice was issued on Friday, citing the non-payment of gratuity to Vipin Kumar Das, an employee dismissed on medical grounds on February 14, 2012.

The wife of Das lodged a complaint on February 19, 2021, stating that the company had not paid his outstanding wages, including gratuity.

During an investigation into the matter, a company representative referenced a consent document for the final settlement dated April 2, 2022.

However, on June 2, 2023, Das’s wife informed the Additional Labour Commissioner that the gratuity amount was still unpaid.

The notice highlighted the Plant Head’s responsibility to ensure the payment of gratuity within one month of an employee’s termination after rendering continuous service for five years or more.

Failure to do so was deemed a violation of the law, leading to the demand for an explanation.
