MP Bidyut Mahato Urges Quick Action on Road and Underpass Construction
Key Points:
- Demand for PCC road at Triveni Sangam site in Baharagora
- Call for underpass construction at Baharagora and Ghatshila
- Union Minister Gadkari assures swift action on the matter
JAMSHEDPUR – MP Bidyut Mahato emphasized the urgent need for safer roads and underpasses in Baharagora and Ghatshila during his meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
MP Bidyut Baran Mahato met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Wednesday to discuss critical road safety concerns in Baharagora and Ghatshila. He highlighted the poor condition of service roads and the absence of underpasses, which have led to frequent accidents.
Challenges at Baharagora’s Triveni Sangam
Mahato pointed out the significance of the Triveni Sangam site at Kaliadanga Chowk, where the borders of Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha converge. The 4-kilometer-long service roads have deteriorated due to the fragile soil, causing frequent accidents. He stressed the necessity of constructing a PCC (concrete) road to ensure safety.
Need for Underpasses in Key Locations
The MP emphasized the urgent need for underpasses at Baharagora’s PWD Chowk and Ghatshila’s Phuldungri area. According to him, the absence of an underpass near Baharagora’s interstate bus terminal causes daily hazards for pedestrians. Similarly, heavy traffic in Ghatshila leads to frequent accidents, making the construction of an underpass critical.
Delayed Projects Raise Concerns
Mahato expressed dissatisfaction over delays in road and underpass construction, despite prior assurances and tenders being issued. He urged the minister to expedite the work to alleviate public safety concerns. Minister Gadkari assured him of swift action and promised to issue necessary instructions to officials.
