JAMSHEDPUR – Social activists in Jamshedpur are protesting allegations against Odisha Governor Raghubar Das by Congress candidate Ajoy Kumar, labeling them as unconstitutional.
During a press conference in Jamshedpur on Tuesday, Bhishma Singh, Chairman of the Assembly of Human Rights and Justice, expressed strong objections to Kumar’s statements, calling them illegal and baseless.
Singh emphasized the dignity associated with the governor’s office and condemned Kumar’s accusations as a violation of constitutional decorum.
Joined by activists Somen Kumar, Sunil Ojha, and Rocky Singh, Singh asserted that holding the governor’s position requires upholding the Constitution’s values.
He further stressed that unfounded accusations against Governor Das, a respected local figure with longstanding ties to cultural and religious organizations, could disrupt societal harmony.
“Ajoy Kumar should respect constitutional offices and apologize,” Singh remarked, also warning of possible legal action if Kumar fails to publicly retract his statements.
Constitutional guidelines under Article 361 prohibit defaming governors, Singh explained, adding that disregarding this may lead to action under Articles 356(1) and 356(2). Social leaders insist that Ajoy Kumar respect such regulations and avoid unconstitutional remarks in the future.
