Naxal-Affected Areas Pose Challenge for Jharkhand Elections

Security Tightened in Saranda Forest for November Assembly Polls

Key Points:

• 66 polling booths in Naxal-dominated Saranda forest

• Voting hours reduced by one hour in sensitive areas

• CRPF camps established near polling stations for security

CHAIBASA – Authorities are implementing stringent security measures for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections in Naxal-affected regions, particularly within the Saranda forest area.

The November elections present a significant challenge for local authorities in Naxal-affected areas.

In the Saranda forest, 66 polling booths require special attention due to their location in formerly Naxal-controlled territory.

Officials have decided to shorten voting hours in these sensitive areas as a precautionary measure.

Despite reduced Naxal activity, the threat of hidden explosives remains a concern for security forces.

A law enforcement official noted that while active incidents have decreased, the risk from previously planted IEDs persists.

The administration is taking extra precautions to ensure voter and poll worker safety in these areas.

Helicopters will be used to transport polling parties to remote booths, minimizing potential risks.

However, a recent incident involving a pressure bomb highlights the ongoing dangers in the region.

The tragic event serves as a reminder of the hidden threats still present in Saranda’s forests.

Authorities are working diligently to create a secure environment for the upcoming elections.

Nevertheless, the situation in these Naxal-affected areas remains tense as the polling date approaches.
