‘Suvidha’ App Introduced to Streamline Nomination Process

JAMSHEDPUR – Jharkhand’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K. Ravi Kumar conducted a crucial meeting with recognized political parties on Wednesday in Ranchi, outlining the Election Commission’s guidelines for the upcoming state assembly polls.

Kumar stressed the importance of following the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). He warned that any violations would lead to severe consequences.

Moreover, the CEO introduced the ‘Suvidha’ app, a new tool designed to streamline the nomination process. This app allows candidates to fill out forms, schedule appointments with Returning Officers, and prepare affidavits digitally.

"The ‘Suvidha’ app will significantly simplify the nomination process," Kumar explained. "It’s a step towards more efficient and transparent elections."

Furthermore, political parties were encouraged to utilize the ‘C-Vigil’ app for reporting MCC violations promptly. This move aims to ensure quick action against any electoral malpractices.

In addition, Kumar informed the parties about the election spending limit of Rs 40 lakh per candidate. He urged them to maintain detailed expenditure records and submit them to the District Election Officer.

"Transparency in campaign financing is crucial," stated an election official. "These records will be made available online for public scrutiny."

On the other hand, party representatives were advised to educate their workers about election rules. To assist in this, the Election Commission provided a comprehensive directory of "do’s and don’ts".

Meanwhile, System Analyst S.N. Jameel offered technical insights on the online tools to be used during the election. This guidance aims to ensure smooth implementation of digital initiatives.

The meeting was also attended by key officials including Additional CEO Dr. Neha Arora and Assistant CEO Dev Das Dutta, underlining the importance of the briefing.

However, the real test of these guidelines will come during the two-phase elections scheduled for November 13 and November 20. The Election Commission announced these dates on Tuesday, simultaneously implementing the Model Code of Conduct across Jharkhand.

Of the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand, nine are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 28 for Scheduled Tribes. The first phase will see voting on 43 seats, with the remaining 38 going to polls in the second phase.

As the state gears up for this crucial election, the emphasis on digital tools and strict adherence to guidelines sets the stage for what authorities hope will be a fair and transparent democratic process.
