The strike follows a week-long hunger strike by doctors in Kolkata after an incident at Raj Hospital, which led to three doctors being admitted to the ICU.
Despite earlier assurances from the West Bengal government following a Supreme Court intervention, the demands of the protesting doctors have not been met, prompting the renewed strike.

As a result of the protest, health services at MGM Hospital have been severely impacted, causing significant inconvenience to patients seeking treatment.
