JAMSHEDPUR – The Kerala Samajam celebrated the 83rd Onam with great enthusiasm, showcasing the rich cultural traditions of Kerala.
The event, held on September 29, brought together numerous residents for a day of festivities.
Moreover, the celebration featured a variety of traditional competitions and performances.
One highlight was the ‘Pookala Matsaram,’ a flower decoration competition showcasing intricate rangolis.
Additionally, the event included popular dances like ‘Kaikkottikali’ performed by women.
The exciting game of ‘Uriyadi,’ where participants attempted to break a swinging earthen pot, thrilled attendees.
Furthermore, traditional Kerala folk songs accompanied by rhythmic drum beats filled the air.
Other cultural performances included the Thiruvathira dance and Kolkali.
Meanwhile, a depiction of the famous Kerala Boat Race added to the day’s excitement.
The star attraction was the "Welcoming of Mahabali" ceremony.
In this tradition, a member dressed as the legendary King Mahabali blessed the crowd.
This symbolized the happiness and equality associated with Mahabali’s reign.
The festivities concluded with a grand Ona Sadhya, a traditional Kerala-style feast.
More than 1,200 people enjoyed this authentic meal served on banana leaves at the Kerala Samajam premises.
On the other hand, Kerala Samajam Model School President KPG Nair was among the prominent dignitaries present.
Although Onam officially concluded on September 15, this celebration brought the spirit to life once again.
The event created an atmosphere of joy and unity for the Malayalee community in Jamshedpur.
