AUJ named ‘Eco-Conscious Champion’ in nationwide e-waste awareness drive

Key Points:

• OPPO India partners with AICTE for ‘Generation Green’ campaign

• AUJ recognized as ‘Eco-Conscious Champion Institute’

• Campaign aims to reach 10 lakh youth by end of 2024

RANCHI – Amity University Jharkhand has joined OPPO India’s nationwide e-waste awareness drive, aiming to educate youth about electronic waste management.

OPPO India, in collaboration with the All-India Council for Technical Education, has expanded its ‘Generation Green’ campaign to Amity University Jharkhand.

The initiative recognizes AUJ as an ‘Eco-Conscious Champion Institute’ for its commitment to sustainability.

The campaign’s first phase offered internships to promote green skills among youth across Indian colleges.

Over 9,000 students applied, with 5,000 selected for the program.

The second phase focuses on educating students about the growing challenge of e-waste management.

Activities at AUJ included Nukkad Natak, poster-making competitions, and best-out-of-waste crafts.

"This event empowers our students to lead the fight against e-waste," stated Ashok Kumar Srivastava, Vice Chancellor of Amity University Jharkhand.

Srivastava announced the inauguration of a Centre of Excellence for Tribal Research and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with OPPO India.

The center aims to support tribal communities in building sustainable businesses while preserving their cultural heritage.

Additional PCCF Yatinder Kumar Das emphasized the importance of proper e-waste management for environmental and public health.

A United Nations report revealed India experienced a 163% increase in e-waste generation between 2010 and 2022.

The surge primarily came from screens, computers, and small IT and telecommunication equipment.

OPPO’s ‘Generation Green’ campaign targets reaching 10 lakh youth by the end of 2024.

The initiative promotes green skills through awareness sessions, Green Pledges, and e-surveys.

"We’re proud to contribute to this crucial environmental effort," remarked a local environmental activist.
