Protest Erupts at Nursing Home Over Death During Operation

Key Points:

  • Sushila Devi dies during uterus operation at Jeevan Jyoti Nursing Home
  • Family alleges hospital failed to refer her in time
  • Police intervene as protest breaks out at nursing home premises

HAZARIBAGH – A woman died during a uterus operation at Jeevan Jyoti Nursing Home in Nawabganj, triggering a protest by her family, who accused the hospital of negligence. The deceased was identified as Sushila Devi, a resident of Tiladih village in Padma block, wife of Kishori Bhuiyan.

According to family members, the woman had been admitted to the nursing home for a uterus surgery but died during the procedure itself. However, they alleged the hospital management failed to inform them promptly when her condition deteriorated.

The family further claimed the nursing home did not provide a referral certificate to shift her to a larger hospital in time. They accused the management of serious negligence and began a protest inside the hospital premises, demanding strict action against those responsible, along with justice and adequate compensation.

Local police reached the spot soon after being informed of the incident and brought the situation under control by talking to the family. Meanwhile, a tense atmosphere prevailed at the hospital premises for some time. Police have started questioning the concerned parties as part of their inquiry.

The exact cause of the woman’s death has not yet been established. Whether any medical negligence occurred during the treatment or operation remains a matter of investigation. Responsibility is expected to be fixed only after the probe and post-mortem findings are available. Police said further legal action would be based on the complaint filed by the family.

The case adds to a string of recent negligence allegations reported at healthcare facilities across Jharkhand. A death at Giridih Sadar Hospital had earlier drawn similar accusations of negligence. In Jamshedpur, a patient had also alleged negligence at a Mango eye hospital after his vision worsened following surgery. In Garhwa, a family had brought a body to a bank alleging negligence over delayed treatment. Separately, contract workers had staged protests over alleged negligence following a worker’s death at Sudha Dairy.
