Key Points:
- Yellow alert issued for heavy rain across Jharkhand till July 9
- Temperatures drop in most districts, easing humid conditions
- Waterlogging reported in low-lying areas amid continuous downpour
JAMSHEDPUR – Continuous rainfall has altered weather conditions across Jamshedpur and the wider state in recent days.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for several Jharkhand districts until July 9. The alert warns of rain, lightning and thunderstorm activity in the coming days.
The monsoon has become fully active across the state. However, several regions have experienced sustained rainfall over recent days.
This has brought noticeable relief to residents who had been enduring intense heat and humidity. Temperatures have dropped in most districts as a result of the rain.
According to the department, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected at several locations during this period. Besides rain, some areas may witness strong thunder and lightning activity.
Wind speeds in these areas could reach 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, officials said. In addition, an orange alert had earlier been issued for districts including Jamshedpur and Ranchi.
The department has advised people to remain cautious during periods of bad weather. It also urged residents to avoid open fields, trees and electric poles unnecessarily.
Moreover, continuous rainfall has led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas. Residents in these pockets have faced difficulties with movement as a result.
The local administration has directed all concerned departments to remain on alert. Similar directions were issued earlier this month regarding drain cleaning ahead of the monsoon season.
On the other hand, the rainfall is being seen as beneficial for farmers in the state. It is helping ensure adequate moisture for paddy transplantation and other kharif crops.
The Meteorological Department has appealed to people to keep track of the latest weather updates. It also asked residents to follow administration guidelines during any emergency situation.
Earlier this season, the department had also issued a heavy rain alert for East Singhbhum and nearby districts. A similar weather alert had warned of winds reaching 75 kilometers per hour in parts of the state.
In June, the department had additionally issued a yellow alert covering districts including West Singhbhum. The monsoon had earlier arrived on time this season before covering the entire state within a few days.
