CBI Team Questions Youth Over SIM Card Used In Bank Fraud
Key Points:
- CBI raids Tuiladungri houses in Golmuri cyber fraud probe
- Rajdeep detained, quizzed over SIM linked to fraud account
- Second team questions Jasbir Singh, checks his documents
JAMSHEDPUR – The Central Bureau of Investigation carried out raids in Golmuri police station area on Tuesday as part of a cyber fraud investigation.
A CBI team reached Saraswati Nagar in Tuiladungri and detained a young man identified as Rajdeep. Officers questioned him at length. A large crowd of residents gathered at the spot as word of the raid spread.
According to preliminary findings, investigators discovered that a mobile SIM card registered in Rajdeep’s name was allegedly used to open a bank account. That account, officials said, was subsequently used for an online fraud case. The CBI is questioning Rajdeep on this basis alone so far.
Officials have not yet established whether Rajdeep played a direct role in the fraud. It also remains unclear whether his name surfaced only because of paperwork linked to the SIM registration.
Meanwhile, a separate CBI team visited the residence of Jasbir Singh, also a Tuiladungri resident. Officers questioned him and examined relevant documents at his home. His exact connection to the case has not been confirmed.
A local resident said the sudden arrival of central agency officials had unsettled the neighbourhood. “We rarely see such teams here, so naturally people gathered to watch,” the resident said.
The CBI has issued no official statement on the raids so far. However, the agency is examining multiple aspects of the case, including similar fraud networks operating with fake SIM cards in the region.
Besides Rajdeep and Jasbir Singh, no other individuals have been named in connection with the case yet. On the other hand, local police in Jamshedpur have separately stepped up scrutiny of cyber fraud rackets in recent weeks.
Investigators are expected to determine the exact roles of those questioned once the probe concludes. Further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
The CBI’s cyber fraud wing has in recent months pursued several cases involving fake SIM cards and mule bank accounts across Jharkhand, including cases tied to recruitment scams.
