JAMSHEDPUR – Continuous rainfall has exposed the poor condition of roads across Jamshedpur in recent days. Large potholes have surfaced on most major routes.
This includes stretches inside as well as outside the Tata Steel company area. The situation has caused mounting difficulties for commuters across the city.
These potholes are no longer just an obstruction to traffic. Meanwhile, they have increasingly become a major cause of road accidents.
Roads in Sakchi, Bistupur, Sonari, Mango and other key localities have deteriorated badly. Persistent rain has caused waterlogging at several spots across these areas.
As a result, potholes often remain hidden beneath standing water. Vehicle drivers are frequently unable to gauge their depth or location in time.
This situation has proved especially dangerous for two-wheeler riders. The condition of Mango Chhota Pul has been described as the most worrying among all affected stretches.
Deep potholes have formed at multiple points on the bridge. Water accumulates there even after light rain, residents said.
Because of this waterlogging, drivers cannot see the actual condition of the road surface. Accidents at this spot remain a persistent concern as a result.
Local residents said several riders have already slipped and been injured at the location. Meanwhile, Marine Drive and the national highway have also emerged as areas of concern for commuters.
Citizens alleged that road repairs and drainage improvements should have been carried out before the onset of the monsoon. However, they said the necessary steps were not taken in time.
Local residents have now demanded swift repair of the damaged roads. They also called for potholes to be filled and the drainage system to be improved without delay.
People said that if timely action is not taken, the number of accidents could rise in the coming days. They warned that the situation could turn even more serious as a result.
