• Shutdown of Turamdih Uranium Project’s Slime Dam threatened

JAMSHEDPUR – Negotiations between displaced Talsa villagers and UCIL management have ended without resolution.

The talks, held in Jadugora, focused on demands for jobs and complete rehabilitation.

UCIL management requested over a month to address villagers’ concerns.

This request angered the Talsa villagers, leading to threats of project shutdown.

Village Head Majhi Baba Durga Prasad Murmu issued a final warning to the company.

He urged UCIL to resolve the matter before September 23.

Moreover, Murmu criticized the management for extending the deadline to November.

The villagers have waited eight years for promised jobs in exchange for their land.

Furthermore, compassionate appointments have been delayed for 14 years.

Concerns were raised about contractor-operated mines depriving locals of job opportunities.

Meanwhile, UCIL management representatives attended the meeting.

Several village leaders and community members from Talsa Gram Sabha were present.

They voiced their frustration and determination to continue their protest movement.

"We’ve waited long enough for UCIL to fulfill their promises," a villager stated.

The impasse highlights ongoing tensions between industrial development and local communities.

This situation underscores the challenges in balancing corporate interests with villagers’ rights.
