Patamada: Villagers and Jharkhand Human Rights Association have opened a front demanding to make the pond and public road encroachment free in Mirzadih village of Bodam block of East Singhbhum district. An indefinite strike was started by the Sangh from Monday. The agitators allege that despite administrative instructions, the work of filling soil in the pond is going on in full swing.
Radhakrishna Singh Munda, Kolhan division in-charge of Jharkhand Human Rights Association, said that on May 5, 2026, an application was given to the Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum, demanding removal of encroachment from the pond and public road located at Mirzadih. On the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, the Additional Deputy Commissioner had also ordered the Bodam zonal office to take necessary action, but despite this, instead of removing the encroachment, the work of filling the pond with soil was started.
On Monday, as per the pre-determined programme, when 10-12 workers of the Sangh reached the protest site, they found that earth filling work was going on with the help of JCB and tractor. According to the villagers, this work was going on continuously for the last one week.
Radhakrishna Singh Munda alleged that the continuation of pond filling work even after the district administration gave instructions to take action indicates administrative negligence and involvement. He said that Chief Minister Hemant Soren is talking about reviving the water sources and ponds of the state by freeing them from encroachment, while the land mafia is being given protection at the local level.
The union alleges that C.L., the director of Anand Vihar P & Developer Pvt. Ltd., is on the pond and public road located at account number-38 of Mirzadih Mauza. There has been alleged encroachment by Aggarwal for the last 17-18 years. Villagers say that this pond has been used for bathing and watering cattle for years.
The villagers sitting on the dharna and the officials of the organization made it clear that the agitation will continue until the pond and public road are made encroachment free. Meanwhile, Bodam police station reached the spot and took action and seized a JCB machine and a tractor.
A large number of villagers including Jharkhand Human Rights Association’s Kolhan in-charge Radhakrishna Singh Munda, Tribal Bhumij Munda Yuva Ekta Manch President Amar Singh Sardar, Co-Treasurer Radheshyam Singh Sardar, Bhaktaranjan Bhumij, Chandramohan Singh, Kaliram Singh, Niroda Singh, Mahavir Hansda, Shambhu Singh, Govin Singh Munda, Bhajhari Singh and Kinkar Singh were present in the protest program.
