Jharkhand Reschedules Excise Constable Recruitment Test

Physical test postponed to September 10 after 12 aspirant deaths spark protests

Jharkhand government reschedules excise constable recruitment physical test following protests over 12 aspirant deaths, announces ADGP RK Mallik.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand government has postponed the physical test for excise department constable recruitment to September 10 following protests over 12 aspirant deaths.

ADGP RK Mallik announced the rescheduling of the physical tests during a press conference on Thursday.

The Palamu centre has been removed from the list of testing locations.

Aspirants previously assigned to the Palamu centre will be redirected to nearby testing facilities.

An investigation revealed that Palamu’s current weather conditions are unsuitable for conducting physical tests.

"Earlier, 6,000 aspirants were appearing for the physical test in a single day. Now, only 3,000 aspirants will be allowed to appear per day," Mallik stated.

The 10 km run within an hour requirement remains unchanged for the rescheduled test.

Approximately 5,14,000 candidates applied for 558 positions in the excise department.

Around 4,00,000 aspirants have already completed the physical test.

The Hemant Soren-led JMM government initially announced a three-day postponement following the BJP’s demand for a CBI probe into what they termed a "genocide."

Chief Minister Soren pledged to provide breakfast for all aspirants before the physical test.

At a recent event, Soren suggested that defective Covid-19 vaccine doses could be a potential cause of the aspirant deaths.

Assam Chief Minister and BJP’s Jharkhand election-in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for Rs50 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and employment for one relative of each victim.
