Jamshedpur Court Demands Witness Presence in Drug Case

ADJ-2 Aabhas Verma issues directive to SSP after Bagbera police fail to produce witnesses

The court of ADJ-2 Aabhas Verma has taken action to address the absence of witnesses in a Drugs Act case, issuing a directive to SSP Kishore Kaushal.

JAMSHEDPUR – After multiple failed attempts to secure witness attendance in a Drugs Act case, ADJ-2 Aabhas Verma’s court has issued a directive to SSP Kishore Kaushal.

The court’s action follows the Bagbera police’s failure to present witnesses in a Drugs Act case.

ADJ-2 Aabhas Verma explained, "We had previously directed the Bagbera police station in-charge to present the witnesses by the specified date."

A show-cause notice was issued on August 1 due to non-compliance with the initial order.

The case originated on April 18, 2018, when Drug Inspector Rajiv Ekka discovered Babita Devi selling intoxicating drugs without a license in Sanjay Nagar, Bagbera.

Babita Devi revealed during questioning that she obtained the drugs from Ajay Kumar alias Ajay Kumar Singh.

An FIR was filed against both Babita Devi and Ajay Kumar Singh under the Drugs Act.

Eight witnesses, including local residents and police officers, have failed to appear in court.

"Their absence is obstructing the legal process," ADJ Verma stated, emphasizing the need for the SSP’s intervention to ensure the trial proceeds without further delays.

The witnesses include Kallu Singh, Pehelwan Saav, Rajesh Prasad, Sarita Tanti, and Rajesh Patro from Sanjay Nagar Bagbera.

ASIs Sudhish Kumar Singh, Ashok Kumar Singh, and Police Vinod Ram are also among the absent witnesses.

The court is now relying on SSP Kishore Kaushal to resolve the issue and facilitate the continuation of the trial.
