- Kerala sought support for infrastructure and fiscal issues
- Further meetings with Shah and Sitharaman were scheduled
NEW DELHI – Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his first Delhi visit after assuming office.
Meanwhile, the meeting lasted nearly 20 minutes at the Prime Minister’s Office. The PMO later shared photographs from the interaction.
However, the discussions gained political importance after Kerala’s leadership change. The Congress-led UDF recently defeated the Left Democratic Front government.
Moreover, former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had completed a decade in office. The electoral outcome ended the LDF’s long rule.
In addition, Kerala Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak accompanied Satheesan during the talks. Officials later confirmed several state matters were discussed.
Furthermore, Satheesan reportedly submitted a memorandum seeking Central assistance. The document covered development projects and financial support demands.
Besides, infrastructure expansion reportedly figured prominently during the meeting. Railway and highway projects were also reportedly discussed.
Meanwhile, disaster relief assistance remained another important subject during deliberations. Kerala’s financial position also reportedly received attention.
However, officials did not disclose complete details from the discussions. Satheesan also avoided speaking with reporters outside the venue.
Moreover, the Chief Minister stayed at Kerala House during the visit. The Delhi trip was scheduled for two days.
In addition, Satheesan was expected to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman later Tuesday. Financial assistance for Kerala reportedly remained the focus.
Furthermore, meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah were scheduled Wednesday. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was also expected to meet him.
Meanwhile, political observers closely watched the Delhi engagements. The new Kerala government reportedly sought practical cooperation with the Centre.
However, sharp political differences between both sides continued despite the outreach efforts.
