RANCHI – Indian Navy’s rescue team and local veterans were honored for their Chandil Dam rescue operation.

Defence Minister of State Sanjay Seth honored a 20-member Indian Navy team and local veterans from East Singhbhum for their efforts in rescuing a crashed training aircraft from Chandil Dam near Jamshedpur.

The team, led by Commander JJ Singh, included key members like Commander Varun Gupta, Lieutenant RP Patel, and Master Chief Petty Officer RS Saini.

Several local ex-servicemen, including Sushil Kumar Singh and Rajeev Ranjan, were also recognized for their contributions.

The rescue operation, which took nearly four days, involved retrieving the aircraft from underwater with support from the local administration and District Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla (IAS).

Despite being occupied at the Karwar Naval Base in Goa, Minister Seth facilitated the Navy’s quick response.

A 20-member team with four tons of diving equipment was dispatched from Visakhapatnam to Bhubaneswar and then to Ranchi.

The aircraft was successfully recovered on Janmashtami after a 14-hour operation and handed over to the DGCA.

The rescue team is currently in Ranchi and will return to Visakhapatnam, with their equipment already en route by road.
