Ex-CM Soren to Join BJP on Aug 30 in Ranchi, Himanta Ends Speculation

Champai Soren set to make official BJP entry on August 30 in Ranchi

Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren to join BJP after meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, signaling a major political shift in the state.

JAMSHEDPUR – Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren is set to join BJP on August 30, following a meeting with Amit Shah.

The political landscape of Jharkhand is poised for a significant shift as former Chief Minister Champai Soren prepares to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

This development comes after months of speculation and negotiations, culminating in a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The decision was confirmed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who played a key role in facilitating the discussions.

Sarma took to social media platform ‘X’ to announce the news, stating, “The esteemed tribal leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Champai Soren ji, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji.

He further added that Soren would officially join the BJP on the 30th in Ranchi.

This move marks a significant departure for Soren from his long-standing association with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party.

Implications for Jharkhand Politics

The entry of Champai Soren into the BJP fold is expected to have far-reaching consequences for the political dynamics in Jharkhand.

As a prominent tribal leader, Soren’s influence could potentially sway a significant portion of the state’s tribal electorate towards the BJP.

This shift comes at a time when issues such as employment, infiltration, and communal harmony are at the forefront of Jharkhand’s political discourse.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, commenting on the potential for cooperation between BJP and JMM, stated, “If Hemant Soren provides five lakh jobs by September, we’re with them. If they stand against infiltrators, we’re with them.”

He emphasized that for the BJP, the nation comes first, not the party itself.

However, Sarma also highlighted the challenges faced by the tribal community in Jharkhand due to infiltration, stating, “The tribal society in Jharkhand is suffering the most from infiltrators.”

A Calculated Move

Champai Soren’s decision to join the BJP appears to be the result of careful deliberation.

Sources indicate that he had been in talks with BJP leadership for the past five to six months.

The former Chief Minister had hinted at his departure from JMM a week ago when he visited Delhi, followed by meetings with his supporters in Saraikela.

His recent trip to Kolkata and then to Delhi, where he stayed at the Taj Hotel, culminated in the late-night meeting with Amit Shah, facilitated by Himanta Biswa Sarma.

This meeting, lasting about half an hour, reportedly sealed Soren’s decision to join the BJP.

As August 30 approaches, all eyes will be on Ranchi, where Champai Soren is expected to make his official entry into the BJP, potentially reshaping the political narrative in Jharkhand.
