7 Elephants Electrocuted, Prompts Investigation by Forest Department

RCCF Ravi Ranjan Investigates Elephant Deaths in Chakulia and Musabani

Regional Chief Conservator of Forests Ravi Ranjan conducts an on-site investigation into the electrocution deaths of seven elephants in Chakulia and Musabani.

JAMSHEDPUR – The death of seven elephants due to electrocution in Chakulia and Musabani has caused significant concern within the forest and electricity departments.

Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF) Ravi Ranjan visited Chakulia and Musabani on Friday to investigate the incidents.

During his visit, Ranjan meticulously gathered information at each site.

He consulted with Jamshedpur Forest Divisional Officer (DFO) Mamta Priyadarshi and Chakulia Ranger Digvijay Singh.

The incidents in question include the electrocution of two elephants in Chakulia on November 1 and 2.

The elephants died after coming into contact with a live wire carrying 11 thousand volts near Kamarigora pond in the Nagar Panchayat area.

Ranjan, accompanied by forest department officials, surveyed the incident sites.

He observed the locations where the elephants died.

The sites included a field near Jwalbhanga village of Badamara Panchayat.

Another site was the cashew forest adjacent to Machadiha Chowk of Jamua Panchayat.

He noted the presence of dangerously hanging electric wires, suspected to be the cause of the electrocution.

In a separate but related incident, five elephants, including two calves, were electrocuted on the night of November 20 in the Upperbandha forest of Musabani.

RCCF Ranjan also visited this site on Friday morning.

He spent about half an hour inspecting the area and gathering details.

Ranjan consulted with departmental officials and employees.

This series of unfortunate incidents has highlighted the urgent need for measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The forest officials, while conducting their investigation, have remained tight-lipped about any findings or potential steps to address the issue.
