The Decennial Negotiation Summit of DAV Public School, Bistupur Model United Nations (DBMUN) commenced on August 16, 2024, with 340 students from different DAV Public Schools in Jharkhand Zone-E participating in the two-day event.
JAMSHEDPUR – The 10th edition of the DAV Public School, Bistupur Model United Nations (DBMUN) began on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., marking the start of the two-day Annual Event with participation from 340 students across various schools in Jharkhand Zone-E.
The event commenced with the traditional DAV Gaan and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest Mrs. Parul Singh, SDO of Dhalbhum, Jamshedpur, along with Mrs. Pragya Singh, ARO-DAV Public Schools, Jharkhand Zone-E, and the Teachers-in-Charge.
DBMUN, the oldest and largest school-run MUN in the Steel City, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the theme "Celebrating A Decade of Striving for Equality, Respect and Promotion of Human Rights."
Keynote Speeches
In her welcome address, Principal Pragya Singh emphasized that DBMUN provides a platform for young leaders to discuss global and national issues, teaching them the importance of peace, leadership, and collaboration.
She acknowledged the efforts of previous student batches who initiated DBMUN and highlighted its role in fostering critical thinking, creative thinking, and higher-order debating skills.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Parul Singh, praised the school’s initiative, emphasizing that leadership is an innate quality that is nurtured through participation in such co-curricular activities.
She encouraged the students to make the most of this opportunity, stating that their efforts today will pave the way for a brighter future.
Committee Agendas and Resolutions
The first day of DBMUN saw discussions on various pressing global and national issues across multiple committees:
1. AIPPM (All India Political Parties’ Meet)
– *Lok Sabha*: Resurfacing of Militant Activities in Kashmir and The Ladakh Crisis; Reservation: A Question of Competency or Birth?
– *Rajya Sabha*: Withering of Federal Structure: A Myth or Reality?; Review of Social Welfare Schemes and Their Effectiveness.
2. UNSC (United Nations Security Council)
– Mitigating Civil Unrest and Promoting Political Stability Across African Nations Amid Crises; The Effect of US Gun Laws on the US and Neighboring Countries.
3. UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council)
– Combating Criminal Violence in Latin American and Caribbean Regions; Forcible Displacement and Safeguarding Refugee Rights.
4. UNWOMEN (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women)
– Rights of Women in Crisis-Stricken Zones; Eradication of Women’s Health Issues and Prevailing Sexual Labor in Society.
5. UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)
– Enhancing NDCs to Align with Paris Agreement Goals; Deliberating on Climate Finance and Related Issues.
Resolutions were passed in various committees, addressing key concerns such as African-led peacekeeping efforts, the effectiveness of social welfare schemes in India, and the enhancement of climate finance mechanisms globally.
The day ended on a high note with delegates from different countries and portfolios engaging in rigorous debates and passing meaningful resolutions.
