Jharkhand Assembly Chaos: BJP Protests Infiltration, Tribal Issues
Opposition raises alarm over Bangladeshi influx and alleged mistreatment of tribal students
Political turmoil erupts in Jharkhand as BJP confronts government on immigration and tribal concerns.
RANCHI – The Jharkhand Assembly was subjected to disruptions as BJP legislators protested the alleged infiltration and mistreatment of tribal students by Bangladeshi nationals.
The assembly proceedings on July 29 were tainted by numerous adjournments.
The well was besieged by BJP members, who demanded answers regarding alleged police brutality against tribal students and illegal immigration.
The session was adjourned at 11:26 AM due to the initial disruption, and it was recommenced at 12:35 PM.
Another adjournment was necessary at 12:40 PM until 11 AM the following day due to the persistent pandemonium.
The Government’s Response
Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon successfully presented a supplementary budget in spite of the controversy.
In the midst of the turmoil, the proposed budget for 2024-25 was presented at Rs 4,833.39 crore.
The Claims of the Opposition
Amar Kumar Bauri, the Leader of the Opposition, accused the government of disregarding public concerns.
He alleged that infiltrators in Pakur had acquired the land of two tribals, and when they protested, they were assaulted.
Bauri also asserted that police misconduct was perpetrated against members of the Adivasi Chatra Sangh at KKM College in Pakur.
He demanded action in response to the High Court’s directive to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators.
Concerns Across Parties
National security concerns regarding infiltration were addressed by Congress MLA Shilpi Neha Tirkey.
She criticized the BJP for disseminating misinformation regarding infiltrators marrying and abandoning tribal women and questioned the Home Ministry’s role.
Sudivya Kumar, a member of the JMM Legislative Assembly, underscored the BSF’s obligation to prevent unlawful entry.
"The Border Security Force must be held accountable for any Bangladeshi infiltrators entering Jharkhand," asserted Kumar.
