Continuous Rain Causes Flooding in Bagbera; Over 200 Homes Affected
Floodwaters from a clogged sluice gate have inundated homes in Jamshedpur’s Bagbera area, prompting ongoing efforts to resolve the issue.
Continuous rain in Jamshedpur has led to flooding in over 200 homes in the lower Bagbera area as water from a clogged drain overflows.
JAMSHEDPUR – Persistent rain in Jamshedpur and surrounding areas has caused significant flooding in the lower Bagbera region, affecting more than 200 homes.
Water from the overflowing drain has not been able to flow into the river due to a clogged and dilapidated sluice gate near Jugsalai Shiv Ghat.
The sluice gate is old and malfunctioning, preventing it from opening.
On Saturday, efforts were made to cut through the gate using machinery, but the heavy weight of the gate hindered the Hydra vehicle from lifting it.
The attempt to open the sluice gate was halted around 5:30 PM.
Efforts will resume on Sunday with the use of a heavier Hydra vehicle to try and open the sluice gate.
Thermocol and Plastic Blockage
The sluice gate is clogged with thermocol and plastic, causing water to trickle slowly towards the river.
By Saturday evening, four feet of water had been drained, but further rain could worsen the situation and cause more homes to flood.
Panchayat Representatives and Officials Monitoring
District Council member Dr. Kavita Parmar, former District Council member Kishore, BJP leader Subodh Jha, Budhram Toppo, and officials from the Revenue and Water Supply Departments are working to address the problem.
Residents of lower areas have been warned to avoid the flood zone due to the continuous rain.
