JAMSHEDPUR – Retired Air Vice Marshal Sardar Harbans Parminder Singh, a Vir Chakra recipient, advocated for the Agniveer Yojna during a recent public address, citing its long-term benefits for India.

The decorated veteran highlighted the scheme’s potential to enhance discipline and commitment in civil administration.

"Several state governments have already committed to reserving positions for Agniveers in their police forces," Singh revealed.

He mentioned recommendations made by ex-servicemen’s organizations to extend the program’s duration and increase permanent commission opportunities.

Singh drew comparisons with military service models in countries like the UK and USA, noting India’s additional economic incentives for participants.

Addressing criticism, he acknowledged the role of opposition in a democracy while recalling similar proposals from the past.

The Air Vice Marshal shared his experiences from the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, emphasizing the Indian Air Force’s crucial role.

Singh expressed confidence in India’s current military capabilities, particularly in facing challenges along the border with China.

During a Q&A session, he clarified misconceptions about the Agniveer scheme and stressed the media’s role in public education.
