West Singhbhum Celebrates Olympic Day with Multi-Sport Event
Cross-country race, rugby, taekwondo among competitions held to promote Olympic spirit
District administration and Olympic Association join hands to encourage local athletes.
CHAIBASA – West Singhbhum district marked World Olympic Day 2024 with a series of sporting events in Chaibasa on Sunday, showcasing the region’s commitment to Olympic values and athletic development.
The district administration and Olympic Association jointly organized competitions in cross-country running, rugby, taekwondo, badminton, and volleyball.
District Sports Officer Rupa Rani Tirkey and Olympic Association President Nitin Prakash flagged off the cross-country race.
Narayan Biruwa, Sunny Kodah, and Akash Laguri secured top positions in the men’s cross-country event.
Dilki Padeya, Tripura Pradhan, and Laxmi Pinguwa claimed the top three spots in the women’s category.
Taekwondo competitions saw participation across multiple weight categories for both boys and girls.
Hockey matches in Bandgaon and archery contests in Kumardungi complemented the main events in Chaibasa.
Transport Minister Deepak Biruwa and Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary attended as chief guests.
Olympic Association President Nitin Prakash highlighted the district’s growing sports achievements.
The event will honor 270 athletes and coaches for their outstanding performances at various levels.
Deputy Commissioner Chaudhary praised the Olympic Association’s efforts in promoting diverse sports.
