On June 4, cyber criminals fraudulently withdrew Rs 1,16,298 from the SBI credit card of Manish Kumar Singh, a resident of Telco Colony, Jamshedpur.
JAMSHEDPUR – Manish Kumar Singh, residing at Telco Colony Quarter Number A4/26 FIR Road Azad Market, became a victim of cyber fraud on June 4, when Rs 1,16,298 was illicitly withdrawn from his SBI credit card.
Manish lodged an FIR against unknown individuals at Bistupur Cyber Police Station on June 9.
According to Manish, he received calls from three different numbers (9835312xxx, 0443516xxx, and 2653503xxx) on June 4 at 1.25 pm.
The callers claimed to be from the SBI Credit Card Department and inquired about his transaction preferences, whether one-time or EMI.
Manish informed them that his credit card was not activated, making it impossible for any transactions to occur.
However, when he visited the SBI branch in Sakchi on June 9 to investigate, he discovered that Rs 99,799 and Rs 16,499 had been withdrawn from his account on June 4.
Manish expressed his concern, stating, "It’s alarming how such a significant amount could be withdrawn from an inactive credit card."
The police are investigating the matter, and efforts are underway to trace the fraudsters.
The incident has raised concerns about the increasing cyber frauds targeting unsuspecting individuals.
The security organizations and the Banks regularly advise citizens to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any calls or messages related to their banking details.
