Cyber Criminals Dupe Tent Businessman of ₹98,810 in Jamshedpur
Tent businessman Sanjay Bhattacharya loses ₹98,810 to cyber fraud under the pretext of booking tent material.
Sanjay Bhattacharya, a tent businessman in Jamshedpur, was duped of ₹98,810 by cybercriminals who posed as clients booking tent material.
JAMSHEDPUR – Cybercriminals swindled Sanjay Bhattacharya, a tent businessman from Baridih Kadani Road in the Sidhgora police station area, out of ₹98,810 on the pretext of booking tent material for a program in JAP-6.
On June 12, Bhattacharya received a call from mobile number 9564614372, where the caller identified himself as Pradeep Kamli, a CISF Army member from JAP-6, and requested tent material for a meeting.
Sanjay Bhattacharya, who has a bank account at Kashidih SBI branch, registered under mobile number 9431380462, loaded the tent material and headed to Sidgora ground as instructed.
Upon arrival, he received another call from mobile number 9523903809, where the caller introduced himself as Major Shiv Kumar.
He was then asked to enter an amount and password via a mobile payment message, with the assurance that the money would be refunded along with the bill amount.
Following the instructions, Bhattacharya realized ₹98,810 was withdrawn from his account in two installments.
Sensing foul play, Bhattacharya visited Sidhgora JAP-6, only to find that no such program was scheduled and no individuals by those names existed there.
Sanjay Bhattacharya has lodged an FIR at Bistupur Cyber Police Station regarding the incident.
The incident has raised concerns about the increasing frequency of cyber frauds in the region.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of such calls before sharing sensitive information.
