Jamshedpur Leads with Highest Voter Turnout in Sixth Phase of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

District Election Officer Ananya Mittal Praises High Turnout and Successful Voter Engagement Programs

Jamshedpur recorded the highest voter turnout among Jharkhand’s four constituencies in the sixth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, achieving a 67.68% turnout with expectations of reaching 70% after including postal ballots.

JAMSHEDPUR – During the sixth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Jamshedpur had the highest voter turnout among the four constituencies in Jharkhand, with a recorded turnout of 67.68%.

The voter turnout in the 09-Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency was 67.68%, and it is expected to increase to 70% once postal ballots are included.

In terms of assembly-wise statistics, Baharagora recorded the highest turnout with 78.39%, closely followed by Ghatsila at 73.96%, Potka at 73.37%, Jugsalai at 70.80%, Jamshedpur East at 58.56%, and Jamshedpur West at 57.14%.

Ananya Mittal, the District Election Officer, commended the impressive voter turnout and highlighted the noticeable rise in voter engagement. This positive outcome can be attributed to the careful planning and effective voter awareness initiatives.

Almost all postal ballot voters, around 97%, took part in the election, while home voting saw nearly 100% turnout.

The election saw an impressive increase of 1,65,999 new voters compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which is a testament to the effectiveness of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program.

The district administration decided to play the Loktantra song at main intersections in order to create a festive atmosphere and encourage voter participation.

In order to make voting more accessible, a total of 1,100 wheelchairs were made available for disabled and elderly voters. Additionally, in urban areas, 30 theme booths were set up to attract and actively involve voters.

As part of the SVEEP program, campaigns made sure that voter names were included in the electoral roll and encouraged people to vote on election day.

In rural areas, voter outreach efforts were made through various channels such as Booth Awareness Groups, Sakhi Mandal of JSLPS, PDS Dealers, CSCs, street plays, and LED vans.

Community volunteers distributed voter information slips door-to-door, while activities such as parent-teacher dialogues, gram sabhas, and school events helped to encourage voter engagement.

A grassroots campaign was initiated just days before the election, with volunteers going door-to-door to encourage voters to take part in the democratic process.

The district administration is currently studying data in order to enhance voter turnout in areas that have historically had lower participation rates during elections in the future.

Ananya Mittal, the District Election Officer, expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who played a part in ensuring the smooth and successful election process. She highlighted the importance of the collective endeavor in bolstering democracy.
