Jharkhand Records 65.40% Voter Turnout in Sixth Phase, Women Lead in Participation

EVMs secured under three-tier security; peaceful voting reported across constituencies.

JAMSHEDPUR – Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K. Ravi Kumar announced that the sixth phase of the 2024 General Elections saw a voter turnout of 65.40%. This figure is expected to rise slightly after counting postal ballots on the counting day.

Secured Voting Process

Addressing a press conference at Nirvachan Sadan, Dhurva, on Sunday, CEO Ravi Kumar stated that all Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been sealed in strong rooms post-scrutiny. These strong rooms are under constant CCTV surveillance and three-tier security to ensure the integrity of the election process.

Voter Turnout Highlights

Jamshedpur recorded the highest voter turnout in Jharkhand at 67.68%, with male voters at 67.87% and female voters at 67.49%. Notably, female voters in Jamshedpur voted 0.38% more than their male counterparts. The Baharagora assembly constituency under Jamshedpur Lok Sabha saw an impressive 78.39% turnout.

Ghatshila recorded 73.96% voter participation, Jamshedpur East had 58.56%, and Jamshedpur West saw 57.14%. Jugsalai reported a turnout of 70.80%, while Potka witnessed 73.37%.

Statewide Turnout

In the Ranchi parliamentary constituency, 65.36% of voters exercised their franchise, with male voters at 65.53% and female voters at 65.20%. Giridih recorded a turnout of 67.23%, with female voters (69.60%) exceeding male voters (65.00%) by 4.60%. In Dhanbad, the turnout was 62.06%, with female voters (62.33%) again surpassing male voters (61.82%) by 0.51%.

Peaceful Elections and Security Measures

CEO Ravi Kumar confirmed that the sixth phase of voting was conducted peacefully across all constituencies. Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, illegal materials and cash worth over Rs 129 crore have been seized in Jharkhand, reflecting the robust enforcement measures in place.

Increased Female Participation

The trend of higher female voter turnout was observed in multiple constituencies, indicating increased political engagement among women. This shift underscores the growing role of women in shaping the democratic process.
